In Auckland New Zealand, the Mt Albert Baptist Church has a project, Project Thailand.
It's my church.
One day, it was water wednesday as part of our Thailand project. Itis for Thailand. We abstain from drinking anything but water and imaginewhat it is like in places where there no clean water. The Mt Albert Baptist Church sold shares to build a well in Thailand.
Community Development among Hill-Tribes
In the Northern areas of Thailand, the (mainly) animistic hill-tribe villages are without running water, sanitation, schools, medical clinics, and a local church. It is estimated that many of these families live on an annual income as low as $100NZD.
As a result of their extreme poverty and lack of citizenship, these people are often preyed upon by drug cartels and those in the sex trade.
In partnership with a cluster of like-minded kiwi churches, and in association with the agency Brighthope World and Integrated Tribal Development Programme (ITDP), we want to bring the gospel to the holistic needs of a cluster of local villages in both word and action through:
• provision of clean running water, sanitation and health education (with each church taking direct responsibility for one of these villages). A short-term team would work with local villages to dig trenches, pour concrete and set up a water supply. We will have 10 folks heading off to Thailand next February
“The Power of We”
We choose this theme for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the popularity of the your suggestions; Community, Equality, Transparency/Anti-Corruption and Freedom, in our theme poll.
Secondly, The Power of We is a celebration of people working together to make a positive difference in the world, either for their own communities or for people they will never meet half way around he world.
